A master woodworker who left the countryside for Copenhagen in 1872, that's Fritz Hansen. The man set up his own workshop in the city and, with his unique designs, he soon became one of the country's best-known furniture makers. When the company received commissions for the Danish royal family in the early 20th century, the name Fritz Hansen soon became a "household name" in Scandinavia and far beyond.
When Fritz's son, Christian Hansen, began experimenting with bending wood under steam at the beginning of the 20th century, the brand was catapulted in no time to become the world leader in bent and laminated wooden furniture. It was with this same technique that designer Arne Jacobsen later managed to design the Ant and Series 7 chairs. The latter would become a true icon in the design world.
What started with one man and a small studio in Copenhagen is 150 years later a brand that sets the standard for design. Its numerous collaborations with architects and designers have provided the world with iconic designs, and today they continue to surprise with their contemporary designs without sacrificing style and comfort. The philosophy within the company is therefore simple, design should make the space more beautiful, simply by its presence. Contemporary designs that last a lifetime - that's Fritz Hansen.
